Oh Canada Rotary Ribfest is thrilled to announce a new sponsorship with Scotiabank, meaning that the movie in the park will be back this year. We cannot publicize the exact date or movie yet, but you can “bank” on it – there will be a Scotiabank Family Movie as part of our 2014 activities!
The Rotary volunteers behind Oh Canada Ribfest have been working hard on preparations for 2014. We are going to start announcing bands which have been booked, to whet your appetite for this year’s event. On Friday June 27 (Opening Night), Fiddlestix will be returning, to play 9:30-11:30 pm. Canada has fallen in love with the magnetic sound of Fiddle Rock and the group that is introducing it to the world. Fiddlestix is inspired by North America’s extreme electric violinist: Steve Bowel, a Yamaha endorsee practically born with a violin in his hand, playing around the world since the age of four and stunning audiences with his limitless abilities. Fiddle Rock is the clarion call to his intense style, which seamlessly blends a unique and edgy mix of soaring solos, scorching riffs and innovative melodies. The sound is so unique to Bowen that even jigs and reels come to bear the captivating “stamp” of Fiddlestix. The presence and talent of Fiddlestix grabs hold of any crowd, branding the sound of Fiddle Rock into the memory of each audience member. This group is not just a “band,” and Fiddlestix is famous for delivering a concert that is more than a “show.” It is an experience. Check out their YouTube clip! And don’t forget to check out the Oh Canada Ribfest entertainment page as we update it regularly.
The Rotary Clubs of Flamborough AM and Waterdown would like to sincerely thank the Oh Canada Ribfest community for another very successful year. We had almost 43,000 visitors, not too much rain, and lots of smiles, laughter and good stories. Our biggest thank you goes to the small army of community volunteers who help with tasks such as recycling, parking, beer tents, greeting and counting visitors. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

On Monday July 1, come celebrate Canada Day at Oh Canada Ribfest. We’ve got comic juggler Craig Douglas at 12:15, followed by Oh Canada birthday cake at 1 pm. From 1:30-3:00, we’re celebrating local talent with an Open Mike session. Four more bands follow, rounded off by a fireworks display at 10 pm. And all day, the ribbers will be cooking, rides will be running and Heal4Life will be organizing their sports challenges. Don’t miss the last day of Oh Canada Ribfest 2013.
There are 7 ribbers at Oh Canada Ribfest again this year, so getting through them all in 4 days might be quite a challenge. The answer: don’t miss a day! Make time to join the wild and crazy guys from Heal4Life in the baseball diamond – they’ve got sports challenges for all the family. On Sunday night, our headliner is Waterdown’s own Jaclyn Kenyon – her career has really been taking off and we’re thrilled to have her for Oh Canada Ribfest.
Amazing entertainment on Saturday night at Oh Canada Ribfest – come at by 6:30 and you can hear Wizened, followed by Fiddlestix, followed by Freedom Train. All very talented groups, with a variety of styles. Check out our website (www.ohcanadaribfest.ca) to connect to their websites. And then there’s the RIBS, ice cream, blooming onions, an enlarged and improved Rotary Marketplace, Heal4Life doing sports challenges in the baseball diamond, and a carnival. Oh, and beer. Hmmm, maybe you should come even earlier lol
If you’re bringing kids to Oh Canada Ribfest, there are a few things you won’t want to miss. The carnival will be open throughout the festival, and Heal4Life will be running sports challenges all weekend too. All the ribbers will be selling pulled pork sandwiches, and there are other foods and snacks available too. Check out our Entertainment page to find local dancers or musicians your kids will enjoy. And especially, don’t miss comic juggler Craig Douglas, at 12:15 on July 1, followed by Canada Day birthday cake.
